1830’s - 1920’s
In the early days of railroads, spikes were driven completely by hand. Laborers would walk along the track and drive spikes with hammers.
1930’s
New mechanically assisted spikers decreased the burden of labor and increased productivity. Operators were able to drive spikes faster without the intense physical labor.
1980’s
Mechanical spikers change the way track maintenance is done. Operators are able to sit in a cab and manually drive spikes with controls, allowing for even faster speeds and removing operators from the ground altogether.
2025
Nordco revolutionizes the way spiking is done with the NXV Spiker. This machine uses AI and an articulate vision system to bring the spiking process down to a single operator in the cab. This removes all physical labor involved with the process and allows operators to safely operate the machine from an enclosed, climate-controlled cab.
